Institute of Historical Research

The institute, founded in 1921, is a national centre for advanced scholarship in history and provides working and meeting space for scholars and graduate students from all over the world. Its reference library contains over 140,000 volumes. The institute is associated with the History of Parliament. Collaborative research projects include the Victoria County History, the Centre for Metropolitan History, the Institute of Contemporary British History and Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae. The institute trains postgraduates reading for higher degrees, and offers a variety of intensive courses for professional historians.
