Sunderland has a range of modern, purpose-built accommodation and aim to provide new students with a single study-bedroom in University accommodation for their first year in Sunderland. The halls of residence are modern and have cooking and laundry facilities. They are comfortable, the rents are reasonable and, as at with all universities, you will find that they are a good place to meet other students.
The university owns Panns Bank, Clanny House and The Precinct for undergraduates and Scotia Quay for postgraduates, research and mature students. All of the accommodation is self-catering with on-site laundry facilities and parking. There are security and maintenance staff on-site at all these properties on a 24 hour basis.
One of the best features of Sunderland University’s accommodation is its proximity to the town centre and the university itself. All accommodation is at furthest only 1.5 miles from the city centre, something which cannot be said for many other universities. For the digs further out, there are free university buses which run backwards and forwards to the City and St Peter’s Campus. This is particularly useful for St Peters as the majority of the university property is located across the river, on the south side of Sunderland.
Being a big city, there are also plenty of rent able properties elsewhere, and being the north east of England, these are fairly cheap. Many students rent in the Pallion or Ashrooke areas of the city (the later of which is more expensive and exclusive), though there are plenty of very modern, ultra-stylish flats in the town which, although more expensive that pallion, can still cost as little as seventy pounds per person per week.
