The key aspects of Dance are its creative, flexible and innovative provision and extensive and exciting reach-out and community links. The focus is on Contemporary Dance (in its widest sense) as a Performing Art and modules are designed with a realistic vision to enable students to experience Dance as performer, creator and spectator.

Students engage in a wide range of activities (on either a voluntary basis or for assessment) these include: working with professional choreographers, the organization and presentation of the annual Sunderland Schools Dance Festival at the Empire Theatre and touring Dance performances in local secondary and regional further education institutes.

The accommodation for dance and music has recently been refurbished to provide a large galleried dance studio with adjacent rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, video edit and viewing facilities. Rooms are well equipped with appropriate seating, sound, lighting and technology
