Engineering is a challenging and rewarding profession. Engineers play a key role in design and development, manufacturing systems and production techniques as well as business planning and sales and marketing. Job prospects are excellent, with starting salaries above average. Sunderland is famed for being the premier automotive school in the northeast. All the BEng programmes share a virtually common first year, as do the BSc programmes, which allows students to defer choices about the subjects you study.

Engineering students are encouraged to pit their skills at an international level, and as part of their studies design, build, test and race a 600cc single-seat racing car against other universities in the high profile Formula Student contest.

Facilities include dedicated automotive and mechanical laboratories, a driving simulator, an automotive design studio, an engineering library and workshop facilities. You will also use industry standard Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software.
