History enables us to understand the past, interpret the present, and gives important insights into the future. The course concentrates on history since 1450 and offers wide module choices, allowing you to develop and follow your own historical interests. British, European and American history are at the heart of our course and we also offer a broad range of thematic modules on topics such as regional history and social and cultural history.

The teaching and learning facilities for History at Sunderland are excellent, with most teaching taking place in the newly-refurbished Priestman Building. The library has a wide range of texts and journals, as well as database and electronic research information. There is also 24-hour access to award-winning computing facilities.
