Sunderland is a big city, and it certainly has the nightlife to match, though still probably overshadowed slightly by the bigger scene in nearby Newcastle. That said, Sunderland does have as many as ten nightclubs and a multitude of bars and pubs to suit all tastes. Sunderland University’s own venues are the Bonded Warehouse, close to the city centre and the Manor Quay on the St Peter’s Campus which is currently being redeveloped. Sunderland is also home to a plethora of good restaurants representing the entire culinary spectrum.
Sunderland is known as a friendly, fun place to go out. It’s cheap, student friendly and doesn’t take itself too seriously. And if you ever get bored; Newcastle is only a half hour metro ride away.
