Graduates are involved in diagnosing and treating diseases, research into how diseases develop and investigating how particular chemicals can enhance healing. Many of them go on to work for top pharmaceutical companies where typical starting salaries can exceed £20,000. It is not unusual to be offered a well-paid job before you have completed your course, often as a result of working in a company on a placement. Our programmes you will develop a multitude of skills. These range from verbal and written communication skills to research methodology and highly specialised scientific skills. Sunderland has long been famed with an excellent school of pharmacy.
Laboratories are well equipped so that students gain experience of a wide range of state-of-the-art instruments before joining the workplace. Some £1.2million has been spent on additional specialist equipment over the last four years.
I am a research student at the school of sciences in university of sunderland and in my experience this a greedy organisation. The staff is great, but the admin side of the school is a bunch of estate agents and they can not understand how science works, research has never been in the forefront for this school since it became a university from a polytech some 10 years ago but the way things are going now it is a shame and some of the oldest and the best reputed courses might have to shut down. Despite my grim out look there is a flicker of hope in the form of their new branch in Kuala Lampur, so if you do feel you re in a bit of a spot with the future of your course, dont frett just book yourself a ticket to KL and you ll be taught by the same people over a video confrence reciever and for about 4 times the money in fees.
