Human nature has fascinated us throughout our history, and continues to do so today. Psychology is at the forefront of our understanding of this, with research into how we think and behave being of great interest and value to modern society. Psychology has applications in many contexts; from working with clinical disorders, to managing education and training. It is widely used in industry and employment as well as in legal and health contexts. The Psychology degree covers a wide range of topics that reflects the diversity of interests of our world-recognised teaching staff. These topics include those in the core areas of psychology such as biological psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, individual differences and social psychology, as well as more diverse topics such as counselling psychology, evolutionary psychology and psychology of terrorism.

The department is based in the Reg Vardy Centre, with purpose-built research and teaching facilities for psychology including; a Cognitive psychology laboratory, an Eye-tracking laboratory and a Multimedia and games research room.
