Sunderland has restaurants to suit every taste and all budgets. The two main areas for restaurants are in the town centre and on the seafront at Seaburn.

In the town centre there are a number of restaurants near the recently redeveloped Sunniside. These include a French bistro, Italian, Indian, Spanish, Mexican and Thai. Elsewhere in the town centre there are more restaurants, particularly near Park Lane bus station including Italian, Indian and Chinese. There are also two excellent Italians and a brand new Indian restaurant by the south side of the river. Many of the pubs and bars throughout the city also offer food, sometimes at very reasonable prices.

On the seafront there is much of the same, with some very good food to be had at really cheap prices. These include some excellent Italians and Indians, as well as Thai and Chinese. One of the very best meals to have on the seafront however is fish and chips, eaten on the beach or the prom.
