Sociology looks at the most important issues facing our society today, including social exclusion, race, disability, gender and social class divisions. Sociology at Sunderland offers a solid grounding in all the major theories of sociology and in research methods. Students will also develop a critical understanding of the social world and be encouraged to apply this not only to Britain but societies around the world. There are a wide range of specialist modules that can be done according to student choice.

The library has a wide range of texts and journals, as well as database and electronic research information. There is also 24-hour access to award-winning computing facilities.
